Verse 1:
There were Christmas trees in the forest
And most of them were tall;
Excepting one, a tiny one,
And he was very small.
When the woodsmen came to the forest
To look for Christmas trees;
The small one cried, "Take me, take me,
Oh, woodsmen, take me, please."
But the woodsmen only laughed (Ha-ha),
They always passed him by;
'Cause nobody wanted a Christmas tree
Who was only three feet high;
'Cause nobody wanted a Christmas tree
Who was only three feet high.
Chorus 1:
The little Christmas tree
Was sad as he could be;
'Cause nobody wanted him, no, sir-ee,
The little Christmas tree.
Verse 2:
On Christmas Eve in the forest,
The North wind blew and blew;
He lifted up the tiny tree
And said, "Good luck to you."
Then he blew him over the highway,
And carried him to town;
And found a space in the marketplace
And there he set him down.
But the folks on Christmas Eve,
They only passed him by;
'Cause nobody wanted a Christmas tree
Who was only three feet high;
'Cause nobody wanted a Christmas tree
Who was only three feet high.
Chorus 2:
The little Christmas tree
Was sad as he could be;
'Cause nobody wanted him, no, sir-ee,
The little Christmas tree.
Verse 3:
Then the little tree took a journey,
He went from door to door;
He stopped at ev'ry flower stand
And ev'ry candy store.
Then he wandered into a toy shop,
When twelve o'clock was near;
And the man inside said, "Glad you came,
Let's spread some Christmas cheer."
So he dressed the tree in lights
And ornaments so gay;
And gave him a bundle of Christmas gifts
And sent him on his way;
And gave him a bundle of Christmas gifts
And sent him on his way.
Chorus 3:
The little Christmas tree
Was happy as could be;
'Cause now he could be what he longed to be,
A real live Christmas tree.
Verse 4:
On Christmas Eve in a cottage,
Two children knelt to pray;
They didn't have a Christmas tree
To brighten Christmas Day.
Then at the door came a knocking,
The door flew open wide;
And the little tree said, "Pardon me,
But may I come inside?"
And the mother who was poor
Could scarce believe her eyes;
To see such a beautiful Christmas tree,
And just the proper size;
To see such a beautiful Christmas tree,
And just the proper size.
Chorus 4:
The little Christmas tree
Was all lit up with glee;
'Cause somebody wanted him, yes, sir-ee,
The little Christmas tree.
Coda:
"Merry Christmas," he heard the children call,
And all at once the tiny tree was almost ten feet tall.
