HARRY WARREN – NUMBER ONE COMPOSER

This is a notable page about Harry Warren, by collector and fan Walt Shureb. His page was the first Harry Warren page on the Internet, first uploaded in 1994, and it is quite informative.

THE HARRY WARREN MUSIC WEB SITE - The "Official" Site...

Harry Warren's family web site.  Please take a gander at this for rare photos, manuscripts, sound clips, and more.

THE JOHNNY MERCER EDUCATIONAL ARCHIVE

This site is by my good friend Steve Taksler. Johnny Mercer was one of the greatest lyricists ever, and any true music lover has to appreciate his work. Johnny won four Academy Awards, one (his first) in collaboration with Harry Warren. Mercer wrote at least 65 songs with Harry Warren.

THE DOROTHY FIELDS WEB SITE

Please take a look at this web site if you are interested in learning more about one of the greatest female songwriters ever. She wrote more than 400 songs, and quite a few of them are standards. In 1950, she wrote lyrics for 7 Harry Warren songs for the score of "Texas Carnival" (1951).

THE INTERNET MOVIE DATABASE

This is one of the top-rated movie sites on the Internet. I have contributed much soundtrack information to this site that is related to Harry Warren. A great resource if you like movies, old and new, and want to find out more about them and the actors and actresses who worked on them.

DICK HAYMES – THE VOICE OF PERFECTION

This is a great site in memory of that wonderful baritone, the one and only Dick Haymes, who introduced a couple of tunes by Harry Warren, including "The More I See You" and "I Wish I Knew" in "(Billy Rose's) Diamond Horseshoe." He also made the most memorable commercial recording of Harry's Academy-Award winning "You'll Never Know."

THE BING CROSBY INTERNET MUSEUM

This is a very nice site about the one and only Harry Lillis Crosby, also known as "Bing." Harry, I mean, buh-buh-buh-Bing, sang many a Harry Warren tune. The first one that I know of is "I Found A Million Dollar Baby (In A Five And Ten Cent Store)" from 1931. Bing knew Harry Warren well, and once called Warren up very early in the morning to ask him to write a barrage of songs for his 1952 film, "Just For You," which would also star Jane Wyman. Warren wrote a dozen songs for this picture with lyricist Leo Robin. Perhaps the best known tune from the film is the incredible duet Bing and Wyman did, "Zing A Little Zong," which garnered Warren an Academy Award nomination for best song.

AL JOLSON INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY WEB SITE

"You Ain't Heard Nothin' Yet!" A wonderful site about "The World's Greatest Entertainer," Al Jolson. Al Jolson performed several songs written by Harry Warren, and launched three of them into the category of standards. "About A Quarter To Nine," "She's A Latin From Manhattan," and "Home In Pasadena." He asked Harry to write a French tune for him to sing in the Shubert production, "The Wonder Bar," from 1931. The song was called "Ma Mθre," but it never saw the light of day. Jolson also starred in two movies scored by Harry Warren: the first being a movie version of "Wonder Bar" in 1934, which included two spectacular Busby Berkeley sequences; and the second being "Go Into Your Dance" in 1935, which also featured his wife, Ruby Keeler. Al also sang a couple of Harry Warren tunes in "The Jolson Story."

Jeepers Creepers: Alex Hassan Plays Harry Warren – Audio CD

ALEX HASSAN – MASTER INTERPRETER OF THE GOLDEN ERA OF POPULAR MUSIC

This site is a page about my very good friend and master pianist Alex Hassan, who lives in northern Virginia. He has a HUGE collection of sheet music and recordings ranging between the years of 1920 and 1939, and has been a superb help to me in my collecting ever since I started out. He is also the best pianist I know, as well as my best friend. He plays in a style called NSR (Novelty-Syncopated-Rhythmic), which is basically a mix of ragtime, classical, and novelty elements. I've always loved embellishments in performances, without hindrance to the melodic flow of a piece, and the way he plays is just perfect! He has no less than 5 CD's out on the market, and you can learn more about him and those CD's at his web site.  You can also view details about his latest, "Jeepers Creepers: Alex Hassan Plays Harry Warren" at this web site.

SHIRLEY TEMPLE – AMERICA'S SWEETHEART

This is a great fan page about America's Sweetheart, Shirley Temple. Her connection with Harry Warren was in a movie back in 1940 called "Young People," in which she sang 4 of the 5 Warren melodies written for the film. One of the best ballads I've ever heard was introduced in this film, "I Wouldn't Take A Million," and it was superbly sung by Shirley. Also performed by Shirley were "Fifth Avenue," "Tra-La-La-La," and "Young People."
